my art - advertising & Marketing

These are examples of ads and marketing material I created over the years.  We had fun with them.

Journal Ad – Touch the Future

Title:  Touch the Future

Description: I wanted to convince customers that we were the company that could lead them into the future.  We borrowed Adam from the Sistine Chapel for the job.  We made several versions of this graphic and used them in multiple ads.  The publisher of the journal, Springer Verlag, liked the ad so much that they used our ad in their ads to solicit additional advertisers.

Journal Ad – Think Different

Title: Think Dfiferent

Borrowing a great phrase from Apple, we applied this to our product that monitors and aggregates multiple data streams from the brain.  The product provides a new way to think about data and a new way to manage a patient with an injured brain.

Journal Ad – Holiday Ad

Title: Everybody is Different

Our product allowed clinicians to individualize care based on the comprehensive data we collected from many different medical devices.  Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s painting, Netherlandish Proverbs was the perfect background to illustrate how we are all different. With the addition of Santa hats, we targeted the ad for the December issue of the Journal of Neurocritical Care.

Promotional – Condoms

Our product monitored brain activity to protect it from things that can go wrong that a doctor can correct.  So we stretched the concept to “Protect the Head” and, of course, the idea for condoms came to mind.  We also made a brain wave simulator called The Grateful Head…a name also worthy of a condom.  These were our “best selling” free promotional item ever produced.  Doctors and industry folks would routinely come by our booth at a trade show and ask for them.  Decades later, people still remember them. I also received a letter from the Chairman of Neurology of a well-known institution asking for more of them. He wanted to promote the concept of “neuroprotection” to his residents. The letter is framed in my office.

Journal Ad – Always Hot

Title: Always Hot

Description: In the mid-2000’s several companies had made promises for products that never came out on time.  We were guilty of that, as well, with some of the educational titles we were producing.  So we decided to be up front about it.  We used a pizza theme to send the message that the product was worth the wait. That’s me in the pizza delivery uniform.
